LionVoices: Payton King
Today’s Women’s History Month #LionsVoices feature is junior Payton King. She is from Cabot, 㽶ƵAPP, majoring in business finance and economics. Payton is the president of Delta Gamma, vice president of TOTS, fundraising chair of the first national bank student leadership council, and served as a cub camp chair last year.
Being involved on campus has created a community for Payton that she never thought she needed. Payton said, “Life can be very difficult, and sometimes you don’t realize the importance of having a community or group of individuals to support you. For many years, I felt that I had to do things alone in life or figure them out on my own. I learned very quickly that you can never truly be a ‘lone wolf.’ There will be times when life knocks you down so hard that you must ask for help, and that’s okay. I have women in my chapter who support me, professors who have helped me make important life decisions, faculty who have let me just sit in their office and cry. The list goes on and on about how this community has had such a positive impact on me, and I could never be more thankful and blessed to have it.”
Payton is very passionate about working hard and being dedicated to the things she wants in life. She said, “There will be situations where your goals will be completed quickly or times where you may never reach them. But the satisfaction of knowing you stayed true to yourself and never let the negative aspects keep you from achieving what you want in life can be the most rewarding factor of it all.”
Strong women often have strong role models, and Payton says her sister is just that. She pushes her to be her best every day and work hard for her goals. She inspired her never to let the unknown or fear of negativity keep her from supporting herself and her family. “She pushes me to be a better sister, friend, student, and individual in society,” Payton said.
Payton’s advice for others is to know that not everything is going to work out the exact way you want it to, and that’s okay. “There’s no truer statement,” she said. “Go out with your friends, eat ice cream, buy the pair of shoes you’ve been wanting because you never know what could happen next.”
We are thrilled to kick off spring break with this fantastic example of the inspiring,
successful, and helpful women we have on our campus. Thank you to all of our wonderful
women who work hard to make this UAFS a better place!
