âGood music, bad jokes, and baseball.â Thatâs how Dr. Rager H. Moore II described the fall choral concert to be performed Oct. 24 by students at the University of Ïăœ¶ÊÓÆ”APP - Fort Smith.
Two choral groups from UAFS will present this concert as part of Season of Entertainment 33. Performing as an ensemble are the University Chorale and Womenâs Chorus, with both directed by Moore of Prairie Grove, who is director of choral activities.
The 7:30 p.m. concert will be performed at the Ïăœ¶ÊÓÆ”APP Best Performing Arts Center at the Fort Smith Convention Center, 55 S. 7th St.
According to Moore, the concert âwill explore how music gets us from one place to another, reminds us of past experiences, doles out good life advice -- and how it simply entertains, often with humor.â
Students from the Chorale will sing selections from Handel and Bach, as well as the poetry of Carl Sandburg.
Moore explained that humor will be featured in those presentations. âAudience members may recognize the âHandel,â but the âBachâ may be one that will surprise them and actually make them laugh.â
The Womenâs Chorus will sing the poetry of Dorothy Walters that offers everyday advice. They will also sing nursery rhymes conducted by three of their fellow students: Kirsten Binns, Moriah Hayes and Ellie Miller.
The final number of the concert is a well-known American tune that speaks to the core of American culture and the game thatâs often called âAmericaâs pastime.â
âTake Me Out to the Ballgameâ contains the poetry of Jack Norworth and the original tune by Albert Von Tilzer, composed in 1908 before either man had attended a ballgame.
