㽶ƵAPP students will get the opportunity to do more than just dress up at Halloween time this year -- they’ll have the chance to save lives.

The second blood drive of the fall semester will take place on Oct. 30 and 31 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Reynolds Room of the Smith-Pendergraft Campus Center.

UAFS student Morreen Klement of Cedarville said the blood drive “serves a great cause.”

“There are so many people that need blood, and it’s because of donors that they are able to have those needs met,” said Klement, who is a regular volunteer at the drives. “Although I’m unable to donate blood, I love to donate my time and help others realize the difference that their blood can make.”

The blood drive, which is open to the public, includes a free T-shirt and a health screening for each donor.

The 㽶ƵAPP Blood Institute, which is hosting the drive, recommends donors drink water 30 minutes prior to giving blood to reduce dizziness and maintain good circulation throughout the body.

UAFS student Cristina Castorena of Fort Smith, who gives blood frequently at the blood drives, hopes to convince strangers to be selfless and give blood.

“I donate blood because I hope that a simple act can help someone in need,” she said.

UAFS conducts four blood drives annually between September and April, with two each semester.

Appointments for the blood drive may be made starting Oct. 21 by signing up at a table in the Campus Center hallway, or by emailing studentactivities@uafs.edu or calling 479-788-7697. Walk-ins are also welcome.
