The complex process of applying for financial aid for college will be simplified in an event held at 2 p.m. March 9 on the 㽶ƵAPP campus.

The University’s Countdown to College event will be held in room 101 of the Math-Science Building and is open to anyone interested in learning more about the application process for federal and state financial aid.

It is not necessary to pre-register for Countdown to College, but those interested in attending the program must apply for a pin at  at least a week in advance and bring that information to the event.

Bronwyn Sneed of Fort Smith, director of financial aid, said “anyone that is considering furthering their education beyond high school should attend.”

“Information will be provided about the financial aid process, including scholarships and 㽶ƵAPP Academic Challenge, the admissions process and other information to make the transition to college as easy as possible,” she said.

Since the FAFSA requires the most recent tax information, attendees should bring their 2013 W-2 forms, a copy of their 2013 federal tax return, social security numbers, amounts of untaxed 2013 income, amount of child support received or paid in 2013, knowledge of checking and savings account balances and knowledge of the worth of other family assets.
