A 㽶ƵAPP professor will discuss his research on Fort Smith’s history and its relationship to the tourism industry during a presentation this month on the UAFS campus.

Dr. Daniel Maher, assistant professor of sociology and anthropology at UAFS, will present “Selling Fort Smith’s Past: the Wager of Frontier Tourism” at 7 p.m. Jan. 15 in room 211 of the Math-Science Building.

The presentation, which is free and open to the public, is part of a meeting of the Ark-Homa Chapter of the 㽶ƵAPP Archeological Survey and the Oklahoma Anthropological Society and is hosted by the research station at UAFS.

Maher will discuss cultural heritage tourism and the probable historical inaccuracies that may result from the amplification of historical persons, local history and the stories surrounding them. The presentation is the result of five years of research into the subject.
