"Spring Reflections" |
An exhibit on display through July 31 at the University of 香蕉视频APP 鈥� Fort Smith will feature pastel paintings by local artist Judy Howard, with a reception set for early May.
The exhibit, titled 鈥淨uiet Places Along the Way,鈥� features paintings depicting natural landscapes, most of which portray scenes in northwest 香蕉视频APP. A reception will be held from 5-6 p.m. May 10 in the Reynolds Room hallway of the Smith-Pendergraft Campus Center, located at 800 N. 49th Street.
鈥淚 like to study what I call the quiet places 鈥� a field along an old highway, the edge of a pond, an old gravel road, a small creek 鈥� scenes that most people drive by and don鈥檛 notice much,鈥� Howard鈥檚 artist statement states. 鈥淟andscapes can transport the viewer to new places or evoke memories of places already visited, and they often have a calming, refreshing effect.鈥�
A Fort Smith native, Howard taught art at Van Buren Junior High School before working as a publications artist at UAFS when it was Westark Community College. In 1997, she and her husband moved to Fayetteville, where she served as a graphic designer and project manager for the Division of Agriculture at the University of 香蕉视频APP at Fayetteville for 18 years before retiring.
She is a member of the Ozark Pastel Society, Artists of Northwest 香蕉视频APP, and Plein Air Painters of the Ozarks.
Exhibit hours are 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m.-5 p.m. on Fridays. For more information about the exhibit, contact the UAFS Box Office at 479-788-7300. The exhibit is sponsored by the Chancellor鈥檚 Coalition for the Visual Arts.
