Challenge Exams
In courses for which no CLEP examination is available, UAFS may grant credit on the basis of examinations administered by the department in which the credit is to be awarded. A challenge exam can be taken only by admitted UAFS students with department approval and after payment of the challenge exam fee. If a specific course is not listed in the CLEP section of this catalog, a student may contact the department chair of the course to determine if a challenge exam is appropriate and available.
Challenge exams can be taken only before the student enrolls in the course, with the exception of and The challenge exams for these courses can be taken during the first week the course is taught.
Students who plan to complete a challenge exam should contact the UAFS Financial Aid Department to discuss how the credit will affect financial aid and scholarships. Credit earned via challenge exams does not count as hours earned for federal financial aid and the Ï㽶ÊÓƵAPP Challenge Scholarship. Credit earned is posted as CR credit and does not count towards a student's GPA.
More Information
Per UAFS policy, challenge exams are available to students who have not previously attempted a course or those who are attempting the course for the first time. If you have taken ITA 1003 in a previous semester and failed or withdrew, then you are ineligible to challenge. A score of 70 percent or better is required to successfully challenge. You can only attempt to challenge ONE time.
How to Register
We recommend that you first contact your academic advisor to determine if the ITA 1003 Exam is appropriate and available.
- Complete the Challenge Exam Registration Form and email it to Lisa Cady for approval. Keep a copy for your records. After you have received approval from Lisa Cady, you may register and pay for your exam.
- After registering and paying, email a copy of your confirmation page to Lisa Cady. She will then email you further instructions for accessing the Cengage area and practice.
- After your exam is completed, email Lisa Cady so she can retrieve your grade. After your exam is completed, the form will be notated with your grade, signed by the department head, and sent to the UAFS Registrar's Office.
- At the time of your exam, bring a current photo ID and your completed ITA Challenge Exam registration form to the ASC.
- If the exam is passed, contact your academic advisor for instructions on dropping ITA 1003 before the deadline (fifth day of class) to receive a full refund.
The Financial Literacy Test is a way for students enrolled in FIN 1521 to test out of the course. In order to do so, students must take the exam during the first five days of the class. Students should stay enrolled in FIN 1521 until completing the challenge exam. If a student receives a passing score of 70 percent or better, it is their responsibility to drop the FIN 1521 course by the fifth day to receive a full refund. Students are only eligible to take the exam once.
How to Register
- Email Dr. Latisha Settlage, dean of the College of Business and Industry, to be added to the Personal Finance Challengers Blackboard Organization.
- Complete the top portion of the Challenge Exam Registration Form. This form is also located in the Personal Finance Challengers Blackboard Organization.
- Upload the completed form to the Blackboard Organization site.
- of $20 per credit hour. The Financial Literacy Challenge Exam is only one credit hour. The payment link is also located in the Personal Finance Challengers Blackboard Organization.
- Complete the exam in Blackboard as instructed. Students will see their score immediately upon completing the exam.
- If the exam is passed, contact your academic advisor for instructions on dropping FIN 1521 before the deadline (fifth day of class) to receive a full refund.
Students who choose to complete the NUTR 2523 challenge exam will need to take the exam, review the results, and register into the NUTR 2523 course if they are unsuccessful in passing the challenge exam.
If passed by earning a grade of 75 percent or better, it is the student's responsibility to drop the course a week before the start of classes in order to receive a full refund and to allow other students the opportunity to enroll.
NUTR 2523 can only be challenged twice. Students will need to wait two (2) months from initial attempt to retest.
How to Register
- Complete top portion of the Challenge Exam Registration Form.
- Email Dr. Paula Julian, executive director, or Dr. Sonia Romero, assistant executive director, to be added to the NUTR 2523 Nutrition Challengers Blackboard Organization.
- Upload the completed form to the Blackboard Organization site.
- of $20 per credit hour.
- Complete the proctored challenge exam. Students can immediately view their score in Blackboard.
- If enrolled in NUTR 2523 and the exam is passed, the student must drop the course by the deadline to receive a full refund.
Students who choose to complete the HLTH 1473 challenge exam will need to take the exam, review the results, and register into the HLTH 1473 course if they are unsuccessful in passing the challenge exam.
If passed by earning a grade of 75 percent or better, it is the student's responsibility to drop the course a week before the start of classes in order to receive a full refund and to allow other students the opportunity to enroll.
HLTH 1473 can only be challenged twice. Students will need to wait two (2) months from initial attempt to retest.
